 Plutarch's ALEXANDER
Alexander was greatly incensed, and upon finding that Limnus had defended himself, and had been killed by the soldier who was sent to seize him, he was still more discomposed, thinking he had thus lost the means of detecting the plot.
Nay, Alexander himself, in the letters which he wrote soon after to Craterus, Attalus, and Alcetas, tells them that the young men who were put to the torture declared they had entered into the conspiracy of themselves, without any others being privy to or guilty of it.
She could not hold, but discovered what he had said to one of her acquaintance, and he, as is usual in such cases, to another, till at last the story came to the ears of Craterus, who brought the woman secretly to the king.

 Alexander the Great
Alexander's council advised him to give up trying to subjugate the Greeks and to concentrate his resources on keeping the barbarian nations of the north under control.
But Philotas' enemies told Alexander that certainly such an insignificant person as Limnus could not be the ringleader of the conspiracy.
When Alexander was sixteen, Philip left him in charge of Macedonia while he went away on a campaign against the people of Byzantium.

Alexander, who held left-wing political views, began to come under suspicion from authorities who saw imaginary problems everywhere.
Alexander's character is also described in [4], where he is said to have been:-
The theory which is now called the Alexander-Spanier cohomology theory, was introduced in 1935 by Alexander but was generalised by Spanier in 1948 to the form seen today.

 Alexander (2004): Reviews
Alexander's worst flaw is that it is one of the worst edited major films to come down the pike in a long time; some sequences have no apparent connection to what precedes or follows them.
In a scene in which Alexander is roaring at his troops to rouse them to battle, he sounds like Mighty Mouse pretending to be Superman.
By de-mythologizing Alexander, Stone has turned him into an unbelievable individual.

Alexander for PC Review - PC Alexander Review
Even Alexander's legendary ability to motivate troops won't get these guys to move.
Part of what made Alexander so great was his military genius and his ability to achieve victory against all odds.
Even if you disregard the historical inaccuracies (for example, the game places Parmenio in India, even though historians like Arrian tell us that Alexander had Parmenio executed well before then), the actual storytelling and gameplay are still poor.

Alexander the Great on the Web
Greek, Macedonian and Albanian nationalists fight to claim his mantle.
Beyond history, this website attempts to show how Alexander is perceived, used and abused on the web today, and through the web, in culture over time.
Alexander's Character explores Alexander the individual, including sub-sections on Alexander's sexuality, his religious feelings (chiefly, did he think himself a god?), and so forth.

 Alexander (2004) - MovieWeb
The story is an epic that is as daring and ambitious as its subject, a relentless conqueror who by the age of 32 had amassed the greatest empire the world had ever seen.
"Alexander," Oliver Stone's sweeping historical saga that charts the life and legend of one of the greatest figures in world history.
Past and present collide to form the puzzle of the protagonist, a tapestry of triumphs and tragedies in which childhood memories and Alexander's rise to power unfold side by side with the later day expansion of his empire, and its ultimate downfall.

 Filmtracks: Alexander (Vangelis)
But Stone had a more geographically-minded and intriguing idea in mind, one that would ensure his film as Oscar-bait and one that could reach out to a more historically relevant Greek sound.
The phrase "in parts" is important, because Alexander can be divided into two sections: that in which Vangelis unleashes the ensembles and his electronics in a massive bombardment of rhythm and theme, and those in which he attempts to provide realistic underscore to the erotic and/or Eastern sequences.
You have to tip your hat to Vangelis for expanding upon the true niche he has found in the world of music.

Reviews: Alexander - Christianity Today Movies
Chris Monroe (Christian Spotlight) says, "It was surprisingly difficult to find much entertaining here.
His Alexander is a much more sensitive character, who spends much of his time either making goo-goo eyes at his male lovers, or trembling and whining about his victimization at the hands of his abusive, negligent father and his domineering, manipulative mother.
The story of Alexander is told through the eyes of Ptolemy (Anthony Hopkins), a general of his who went on to become Pharaoh in Alexandria, and who is now dictating the story of their conquests some 40 years later to a scribe in that city's famous library.

 Christopher Alexander
Alexander insists that his philosophy is inseparable from his architectural theories.
All the carpets are illustrated in his book, which serves as a catalog of the collection; and some of them appear in his article.
Alexander has actually abstracted the process by which organic and inorganic forms evolve -- which is the same process that governs the growth of a city.

 Alexander (2004)
MPAA: Rated R for violence and some sexuality/nudity.
He even thought that the assassination scene was fine where it was because it related better to what was going on in Alexander's head at the time.

Alexander led his virtually invincible Greek and Macedonian armies through 22,000 miles of sieges and conquests in just eight years, and by the time of his death at the age of 32 had forged an empire unlike any the world had ever seen.
Alexander is based on the true story of one of history's most luminous and influential leaders, Alexander the Great (Farrell) - a man who had conquered 90% of the known world by the age of 27.
The film chronicles Alexander's path to becoming a living legend, from a youth fueled by dreams of myth, glory and adventure to his lonely death as a ruler of a vast Empire.

Alexander notes[29] that his characterization of patterns meshes well with common definitions of scientific theories.
Alexander has been working for the past twelve years on a follow-up book, The Nature of Order, devoted solely to this topic (see [29,9]).
However, later efforts are also in large part a response to failures in the methods and algorithms presented in Notes, as discovered by Alexander and others [2,29,33,38,49].

Yet he could have sworn he'd just been holding his head high.
Once he realised how out of touch people are with what they're actually doing with they're bodies, Alexander spent the rest of his life working on hid technique - in perfect voice.
He saw that when he lifted his head heroically as he recited, he tipped it back, constricting his larynx and incidentally crushing his spinal discs.

 IGN: Alexander Review
This is more of a problem in the large, open-field battles but it's not as noticeable when you're fighting in narrow city streets.
It starts with him putting down revolts at home and ends with him leading his armies back to Babylon.
Sometimes Alexander is leading a few units of infantry in search of a lost relic.

 Alexander
Stone chooses to dwell on scenes that emphasize the making of a conqueror, his intense relationship with his boyhood friend Hephaistion, the exoticism of the lands conquered and his unalterable belief that his road to glory parallels that of his idol, the legendary Greek warrior Achilles.
In struggling to make sense of Alexander's years spent in Asia, when he should have been consolidating and governing his empire, Stone postulates that Alexander is running away from Mommy as much as he is searching for young boys.
At his death before age 33, Alexander (356-323 B.C.) had traveled 22,000 miles and put together through military victories -- he never lost a battle -- an empire well over 2 million square miles that stretched from today's Greece and Turkey to Egypt and parts of India.

 GameSpy: Alexander Review
Units can be grouped or singled out with the left mouse button, and commands are executed by right clicking on terrain or buildings.
Oliver Stone may have a point when he says his movie was too morally ambiguous for Americans, but a similar appeal to avant garde game design won't explain Alexander the Sprite and his battle fodder wading tactlessly into melee after melee despite your best efforts to save their witless necks.
This is real-time without the strategy, a pretty history hack with crummy controls, and it's really too bad, because the new hybrid 2D/3D engine (developed for the forthcoming Cossacks 2) looks great.

"Towards the end of this movie, I wanted to kill Alexander just to get it over with and go home.
"At a reported cost of $155 million, Alexander qualifies as a super-spectacle in every respect but one -- namely in its neurotic, confused and sexually ambidextrous hero."
"Like Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York, Alexander is an overindulgent, sprawling specimen of the director's lavish strengths and harrowing weaknesses."
