 Russo-Turkish war 1877
On 24th April 1877, the tsar declared war against Turkey, with the avowed object of righting the wrongs of the Christians in Turkey.
As regards the Turkish fleet, at the outset, in addition to a fleet of 8 ironclads below Braila, there were 7 monitors and 18 wooden ships of war on the Danube between Hirsova and, Vidin.
At the outbreak of war, Osman's force, some 30,000 strong, was at Vidin; a few battalions were spread along the Danube from Vidin to Silistria, with a brigade of infantry at Nikopol, another at Sistova, and the best part of two divisions at Rustchuk.

 Nineteenth Century Death Tolls
I suspect (but can't confirm) that the 15th edition measures the before-and-after population of only those provinces that remained part of Paraguay after the war, while the 11th edition (maybe) begins with the population inside the pre-war borders and ends with the population inside the post -war borders.
Scheina, Latin America's Wars : "during these seventy-four years of conflict some 300,000 combatants and 700,000 civilians were killed directly (battlefield deaths and assassinations) or indirectly (wounds, sickness, starvation, and imprisonment.)"

 Russian-Soviet-Serb Relations
The Russo-Turkish War of 1806-1812, which began in December of 1806, had a great effect on the course of the national liberation struggle of the Serb people.
These wars saw the same development of the military art as was seen in the 1877-78 Russo-Turkish War (skirmish lines, troop-made entrenchments, and others).
Unsatisfied by the sultan's decrees of 1875-76 in regard to "equal rights of Muslims and Christians", which in fact did not free the Bosnians, Montenegrans, and other Balkan peoples from the knout of Turkish feudalism, Serbia and Montenegro went to the aid of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Romanian Unity and Moldavian Integration from the 19th Century until World War II.
The Ottoman Empire had lost the control of the provinces of Moldova and Walachia as early as 1812, when at the end of the Russo-Turkish war of 1806-12, it handed over the control of these territories to Tsarist Russia.
The Romanian government, having entered the war as Germany's ally, re-occupied Bessarabia in the year 1941, but the Soviet Union reclaimed it in 1944, and the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic was re-proclaimed at the end of WW II.
The period starting with this year is known in the Moldavian history as the period of Russian Administration, although the contest for the control of these lands between Ottomans and Russians was fierce during all the 19th century, and often passed from one power at the end of wars or international treaties.

Attack along the Danube: The Russo-Turkish War of 1810
From the 1772 to 1812, Russia fought a series of wars in the Balkans against the Ottoman Empire.
Bulgaria remained Turkish, the decisive gain of Rustchuk was only partially exploited, the Russians gave up their Balkan conquests in the May of 1812 in order to concentrate on meeting the threat of Napoleonic invasion of Russia.
By dusk, the details of the assault had been finalised.

Bushnell rebuilt the TURTLE during the War of 1812, and used it once more in unsuccessful attacks on British blockaders.
The main reason was that the rules of war as existed at the time said nothing about seraphims, and use of such craft might undermine the existing arrangements, leading to an expanding spiral of brutalities between combatants.
None of the efforts had been particularly workable, and in fact were generally perfectly crazy and dangerous.

Russia annexed the region of Bessarabia after the Russo-Turkish War of 1806-1812 as part of the Treaty of Bucharest, leaving a greatly reduced Moldavia still under Ottoman domination.
In 1941 Romania, an ally of Nazi Germany, declared war on the USSR and reclaimed Bessarabia with German military assistance.
Moldavian territory was divided in 1812, when the Ottoman Empire took control of all of the land west of the Prut River and Russia took control of the rest.

The Greek War of Independence (see Greece) precipitated the Russo-Turkish War of 1828–29, which ended with the Treaty of Adrianople (see Adrianople, Treaty of).
The Russo-Turkish Wars were the result of Russian attempts to find an outlet on the Black Sea and : in later stages : to conquer the Caucasus, dominate the Balkan Peninsula, gain control of the Dardanelles and Bosporus straits, and retain access to world trade routes.
In World War I, Russia and the Ottoman Empire faced each other once more; Russia sided with the traditional allies of the Ottomans : England and France : while the Ottomans fought with the former partners of Russia : Austria and Bulgaria.

Napoleon Series Reviews: Russo - Turkish War of 1806 - 1812
I recently received my eagerly anticipated copy of Alexander Mikaberidze’s translation of Mikhailovsky-Danilevsky’s Russo-Turkish War of 1806-1812 (published by the Nafziger Collection).  The translation is excellent and very readable and the original content thoroughly covers a campaign I knew virtually nothing about.
For those of you thinking that the Russo-Turkish war of 1806-1812 is a yawner, there is ample action to be of interest and the campaign illustrates the difficulties Russia faced in waging war across vast sparsely populated regions stretching from the Caspian to Serbia.

The War of 1812: A curious war
The War of 1812 was an intriguing war, declared under strange circumstance, given odd names, fought in a weird manner, and ended in a curious way.
The American Navy came of age in 1812 when the warship U.S. Constitution (Old Ironsides) engaged a French vessel (Guerrière) in the Atlantic.
Regardless of the Congressional declaration, the country was ill prepared and not well motivated for war.

Chapter 6: The War of 1812
Harrison therefore started north toward Lake Erie at the end of October 1812 with some 6,500 men.
The conduct of the war in 1812 and 1813 revealed deficiencies in the administration of the War Department that would plague the American cause to the end.
By this time, also, the balance of political power had shifted south and westward; ambitious party leaders had no choice but to align themselves with the war hawks, and 1812 was a Presidential election year.

War of 1812 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The War of 1812 was a conflict fought on land in North America and at sea around the world between the United States and United Kingdom from 1812 to 1815.
The War of 1812 had little impact in Great Britain and was generally forgotten, since it was considered to be insignificant when compared to the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo on 18 June 1815.
Although the War of 1812 ended as a stalemate and is often only dimly remembered, it had many effects on the futures of those involved.

Many people believe that Indians were the "big losers" of the War of 1812.
There were women involved in the War of 1812 on both the American and British sides, and through their reminisces, letters and journals, you can get a glimpse of what it was like in this war that spanned many acres and took two and a half years.

War of 1812 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Many Canadians considered the War of 1812 to have been an American defeat because the American invasions of 1813 and 1814 had been repulsed.
The War of 1812 had little impact in Great Britain and was generally forgotten, since it was considered to be insignificant when compared to the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo on 18 June 1815.
At the beginning of the War of 1812 it is estimated that perhaps one third of the inhabitants of Upper Canada were American born.

Amazon.ca: Books: The War of 1812: The war that both sides won
The real significance of the series of skirmishes that collectively made up the war between 1812 and 1814 is the enormous impact they have had on Canadian and American views of themselves and each other.
In The War of 1812: The War That Both Sides Won, Wesley Turner provides an overview of the war, and examines the arguments on both sides of the debate.
When the first edition of this book was published in 1990, its impact was immediate and lasting, and The War of 1812: The War That Both Sides Won became one of the most recognizable studies of the war to appear in recent years.

The Invasion of Canada : 1812-1813
Yet, when the campaign of 1812 ended, the only Americans left on Canadian soil were prisoners of war.
The War of 1812 was initiated by President Madison as a war of conquest against Ontario (or Lower Canada, as it was then known).
But the War of 1812, or more properly the myth of the war, served to give the new settlers a sense of community and set them on a different course from that of their neighbours.
