United Arab Republic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United Arab Republic (UAR) (Arabic: لجمهورية العربية المتحدة- al jumhūrīya al-ʕarabīya al-muttaĥida) was the state formed by the union between the republics of Egypt and Syria in 1958.
President Nasser was elected as the new republic's president, and Cairo was chosen to be the capital.
The United Arab States was a much looser confederation, established between the UAR and North Yemen.

Yemen Arab Republic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On 27 September 1962, revolutionaries inspired by the Arab nationalist ideology of United Arab Republic (Egyptian) President Gamal Abdul Nasser deposed the newly-crowned King Muhammad al-Badr, took control of Sanaa, and established the Yemen Arab Republic (YAR).
This coup d'état marked the beginning of the North Yemen Civil War that pitted YAR troops assisted by the United Arab Republic (Egypt) while Saudi Arabia and Jordan supported Badr's royalist forces opposing the newly formed republic.
The Yemen Arab Republic (YAR), (in Arabic: الجمهوريّة العربيةاليمنية [al-Jamhūrīyah al-`Arabīyah al-Yamanīyah]) also known as North Yemen or Yemen (Sanaa), was a country from 1962 to 1990 in the northern part of what is now Yemen.

 Pan-Arab Colours
The Arab Liberation flags have five-pointed stars: The United Arab Republic flag of 1958 had two stars (in green to restore the missing pan-Arab colour) representing Egypt and Syria.
In 1947, the Arab Ba'ath Party interpreted the flag as a symbol of the liberation and unity of the Arab nation.
Since this tide of Arab nationalism did not result in Arab unity, as the failure of the UAR helped show, it is not surprising that the current Egyptian government ties the color scheme to purely Egyptian ideologies.
