 Thracian Tet Forgeries
Others have argued, however, that modern counterfeiting of Thracian tetradrachms isn't a serious problem because the market for authentic specimens is fairly narrow.
A number of modern forgeries of Thracian tetradrachms reportedly surfaced, for instance, at the 1997 ANA World's Fair of Money in New York.
This particular specimen has both types of cuts, and the reverse cut seems deliberately designed to emasculate the mighty Herakles.

 The Story of Sitalkes
The Macedonians never even thought of meeting him with infantry; but the Thracian host was, as opportunity offered, attacked by handfuls of their horse, which had been reinforced from their allies in the interior.
Octamasadas, discovering whither he had fled, marched after him, and had reached the Ister, when he was met by the forces of the Thracians.
Sitalces, his son, was now sought as an ally by the Athenians, who desired his aid in the reduction of the Thracian towns and of Perdiccas.

Modern sources based on relatively recent archeological evidence gives more indications of these influences which would appear to be independent corroboration of the ancient sources cited above.

 At the Museums: Thracian Glitter
The historian Herodotus describes the Thracians in some detail, commenting on their large numbers, their lack of political unity, and various customs such as polygamy and branding of slaves that, from a Greek perspective, struck him as very odd (Histories, 5.3-8).
Homer's Iliad provides a striking portrait of the Thracian hero Rhesos, an ally of the Trojans and a fearsome warrior, remarkable for his large and beautiful horses, his ornate chariot, and his golden armor.
The Thracians left no written account of their customs and history, and their language is known only from place names and a small number of inscriptions written in Greek characters.

Many Greek colonies - e.g., Byzantium on the Hellespont and Tomi (modern Constanta) on the Black Sea - were founded in Thrace by c.600 B.C. The Greeks exploited Thracian gold and silver mines, and they recruited Thracians for their infantry.
Natural gas has been discovered lately in the region.
At the dawn of history the ancient Thracians, a group of tribes speaking an Indo-European language, extended as far west as the Adriatic Sea, but they were pushed eastward (c.1300 B.C.) by the Illyrians, and in the 5th century B.C. they lost their land west of the Struma (Strimón) River to Macedon.

A New Dimension of the Linguistical Relations between Romanian and Greek
The kinship of Greek and Thracian was denied because of their belonging to different groups following the centum-satem isogloss.
The imponderables of this approach are the phonetic rules which governed the Thracian languages.
Based on this fact, my theory is that Thracian belonged at first to the Greco-Macedonian group and then it received a massive influence from Balto-Slavic which determined it to change its centum into satem character.

There is some evidence which suggests the temple, which included evidence of a rare Thracian custom described in ancient writings in which the king was buried on top of a hill or in a column instead of under a mound, could contain the grave of Orpheus, according to Ovcharov.
Ovcharov said such rituals were used in the burials of the Thracian kings Orpheus and Rezus, though he said he was unsure whether Orpheus was an actual person or a mythical image made up of a composite of several real kings.

Bulgaria finds Thracian mausoleum -DAWN - International; 06 October, 2004
Modern Bulgaria is regarded as the geographical cradle of Thracian civilization, which extended from the Caucasus to southwestern Europe from the fourth millennium B.C. to the third century A.C. But much of Thracian civilization remains a mystery despite major discoveries in recent years.

 Celto-Thracian c. 285 BC - 200 BC
By 285 BC, due to the constant chaos of the successor states, Thrace was conquered and Seuthopolis, ancient royal capital of Thrace was sacked and many Celts began to settle in Thracian lands.
However, those Celts that remained in Thrace established their capital at Thylis in 273 BC and continued to rule until defeated by the Thracians sometime in the late 3rd or early 2nd centuries BC (depending on the source).
In 279 BC, Brennus and Acichorios lead many of the Celts into Greece where they defeated Greeks and Macedonians and plundered to the shrine at Delphi until being defeated by Antigonus III in 278 BC and forced through Bithynia in to Asia Minor where they would become known as Galatians.
