 Women's Exposure to Mass Media Is Linked to Attitudes Toward Contraception in Pakistan, India and Bangladesh
The data for India are from the 1992-1993 National Family Health Survey, in which 90,000 ever-married women aged 13-49 were interviewed.
Spousal discussion of fertility desires was significantly higher among women who had listened to the radio in the earlier period (odds ratio of 1.2) and among those who had been exposed to television or to print media in the later period (1.4 and 1.3, respectively).
Women's odds of discussing family planning with their husbands were elevated among those exposed to general television or radio programming or to family planning messages on either medium (1.1-1.3).

Star got into hot water through an earlier arrangement in which the Murdoch interests parked their majority stake in Star News with a shell company controlled by friends and business associates of Star India chief executive Peter Mukerjea.
And more important for Star, while its other channels like Star Gold and Star World are floundering in India, Star News is a clear winner among Hindi as well as English news channels.

The number of televisions in India sets increased from around 500,000 in 1976 to 9 million in early 1987 and to around 47 million in 1994; increases are expected to continue at around 6 million sets per year.
Television was separated from Radio in 1976 and Doordarshan came into existence.

In a judgment this morning, the Kolkata high court on Monday allowed telecast of Sahara Entertainment's serial, dismissing an appeal by Bradford, who had claimed the series was a plagiarised version of her novel A Woman of Substance, the Press Trust of India has reported.
Sahara had aired the first episode of the serial at 9.30 pm on 12 May, but had to discontinue it from the next day as the court blocked telecast of the series following Bradford's petition.
The Kolkata High Court, which had earlier this month, given a go ahead to Sahara but withdrew it on an appeal from Bradford, went through all available footage of the serial as well as Bradford's novel before announcing its verdict today.
