Somali: From The Dawn of Civilization To The Modern Times
The best thing I thought would be to compile all relevant news items, information and views published in the international press on the recent happenings of the post Siad Barre period in Somalia and present their gist in an objective and straight-forward manner, without taking any sides or offering any generalization of my own.
Aidid's critics and enemies as influenced by the US and the Western media have been saying many derogatory and damaging things against him because of their vested interests and politics.

 Welcome to Somali Herald Online
The Sept. 25 Associated Press article "Far from home, Somalis press U.S. to aid emerging government" created concern among the Somali community in this state.

The following were among the things reportedly done to the Somali.
The Post article did not estimate what percentage of the 75,000 UN troops were involved in the atrocities.

 An Islamic point of view
There have been far more cases of discrimination than charges or lawsuits, Mursal says, because Somali people have a tendency not to complain.
"As far as we can remember, Somali were under a dictatorship, and we had no rights at all.
And with more than 40,000 Somali now living in Minnesota, the need to accommodate followers of Islam, like the rights of individual believers, cannot reasonably be denied.

A Definitive History of the Somali Cat
It is meant to be used as a tool for the Somali owner or breeder who wishes to write and speak intelligently about the breed's beginnings.
Over the last quarter century we have lovingly filed away and archived that history knowing that if someone did not preserve these documents truth would be replaced by rumor and fact would become myth.
This should prove to be an invaluable tool for the researcher wanting to extend his Somali's pedigree back through the darkness of time.

Cat Fanciers: Somali: Cat Breed FAQ
Where the longhaired gene came into the Abyssinian population is a a subject of speculation, but before the Somali breed began to be advanced in the late 1960s, longhaired kittens popped up in Abyssinian litters.
Somalis are also referred to as "longhaired Abyssinians", since Abyssinians are the "parent breed" of the Somali breed.
Many Somalis will try to groom their owners' hair, beards, and moustaches, particularly if they are wearing any kind of hair-care product such as hairspray or mousse.

MOGADISHU, Somalia (CNN) -- The Somali faction leader whose forces drove a U.N. peacekeeping mission out of the lawless east African country has died.

Thousands of Somalis flooded Mogadishu's streets as the news of Aidid's death spread, many trying to reach his home or the mosque where a funeral service was to be held later Friday.

Somali (cat) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Somalis have a striking, bushy tail, which, combined with their ruddy coat, has earned them the nickname of "fox cats" in some circles.
Like Abyssinians, they have a dark rim around their eyes that makes them look like they are wearing kohl, and they have a small amount of white on their muzzles and chins/throats.
Their coats are ticked, which is a variation on tabby markings, and some Somalis may show full tabby stripes on portions of their bodies, but this is seen as a flaw, and tabby Somalis are only sold as neutered pets.

Historically, these two countries, particularly Ethiopia, have had hostile relations with the Somali nation and its people.

Somali: THE SPEAKER HAS NO CLOTHES
This is precisely the case with the recent ugly spectacle inside the Somali parliament over the issue of peacekeeping forces.
(It is important to denote that the government did not ask for forces to disarm the Somali militias, but rather, that it requested these IGD forces for the protection of the institutions of the government, and for no other purpose).
The Speaker of the Parliament, Shariif Aden has debased not only the constitutional order of his government, but he has also failed to uphold the principal procedural rules of parliamentary practice by forcing a motion with a questionable legal standing.

Although sources often state that Somalis are not good apartment-dwellers, they are fine apartment cats as long as they have the run of the place.
For many years, longhaired kittens from Aby breedings were quietly eliminated (some by placing as pets, sometimes not) until unrelated groups of breeders in Canada and the United States began working with these longhaired "throwaways" in the early 1960s to develop the breed that exists today.
This lively breed with a bushy tail has sometimes been called the "fox cat".

 ELECTRONIC REGISTER OF SOMALIS
This is why, in 1992, some French Aby and Somali breeders have discovered a new service, called "Abyssys", that they can consult through their phone line and Minitel set.
In 1988, when my wife and I started to be interested in cat breeding, we have realized that the breeders of Somalis (the breed we had been choosen by) were working in a great isolation, despite the help that some associations (originally devoted to Abyssinian cats) were attempting to bring to them.
First, all known ascendants of Somali cats, whatever their breed, have been added to E.R.o'S. Among them are Abyssinians mainly, but also several more unexpected breeds which have been outcrossed in order to introduce some particular genes (silver, chocolate, tortie, dilution, long-hair, etc.) in the Aby or Somali gene pool.
