In 1909 nearly 10,000 of the 25,000 Sioux within the United States were officially reported as Christians.
In a battle near the present Stillwater, Minnesota, in June, 1839, some 50 Ojibwa were slain and shortly afterward a Sioux raiding party surprised an Ojibwa camp in the absence of the warriors and brought away 91 scalps.
On 3 September, with 1200 men, he came upon their camp at Ash Hollow, Western Nebraska, and while pretending to parley on their proffer of surrender, suddenly attacked them, killing 136 Indians and destroying the entire camp outfit.

Land which the tribe has attempted to restore to tribal ownership to this day.The eastern boundary of the Great Sioux Nation is the east bank of the Missouri River and is also the boundary of the eastern edge of the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.
The Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation is part of the Great Sioux Reservation that was established under the Treaty of 1868.
The construction of the Oahe Reservoir in 1948- and 1962 supposedly removed 104,420 acres of trust land from the reservation due the illegal building of the dam.
