Sinai Peninsula - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1948, Egyptian forces passed through Sinai on their way to invade the newly-created state of Israel based on a United Nations mandate dividing the land between the Jews and the Christian and Muslim inhabitants.
In 1956, Egypt used its control of Sinai to impose a blockade on the Israeli port of Eilat.
As part of the subsequent Sinai Disengagement Agreements, Israel withdrew from west of the canal and pulled out of an additional strip in the western Sinai--while Egyptians held positions in Sinai--allowing for the later re-opening of the canal eventually under Egyptian control.

Mount Sinai - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Whether modern-day Gebel Musa is the same as the biblical Mount Sinai, however, is the subject of much religious and scholarly contention.
Colin Humphreys has argued in favor of the volcano Hala-'l Badr further south in Arabia in his book The Miracles of Exodus, claiming that an erupting volcano would explain many of the phenomena described in Exodus.
There is a considerable weight of historical counterevidence to support the view that Jabal Musa and the Biblical Mount Sinai are not colocated.

Six thousand Israelis are still in Sinai of the 15,000 at the time of the attacks.
The triple terrorist attack in Sinai Thursday night, October 7, was aimed against Israelis and Egyptians.
DEBKAfile’s intelligence and counter-terror sources report that the explosives used to tear away the entire frontage of the Taba Hilton and hit the Nueiba oasis campside further south on the Red Sea coast were of Iranian manufacture; the same make as the bombs used in the 1996 Khobar Towers blast and he 2003 Istanbul attacks.

The Real Mt. Sinai and Exodus Highlights
Sinai is beyond reach because the Saudi's have put a fence around it and does not allow foreigners to visit the location.

Ron was able to get a complete video of it by a Saudi friend who has not identified himself yet.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Sinai
The present population of Sinai is 4000 to 6000 semi-nomadic Arabs, Mohammedans, governed by their tribal sheikhs and immediately subject to the commandant of the garrison at Qal' at un-Nakhl, under the Intelligence Department of the Egyptian War Office at Cairo.
The more liberal critics, while agreeing generally that the Jewish traditions represented by the "Priest-Codex" and "Elohistic documents" place Sinai among the mountains in the south-central part of the peninsula, yet disagree as to its location by the older "Jahvistic" tradition (Ex., ii, 15, 16, 21; xviii, 1, 5).
Sinai was the refuge of many Christian anchorites during the third-century persecutions of the Church.

Problems with Mt. Sinai in Saudi Arabia
Placing Mt. Sinai somewhere in Arabia is not new, contrary to what has been implied by Williams and Cornuke, but the specification of a particular mountain is relatively recent.
The book argues that the Amalekites stayed in Arabia, never venturing as far as the Sinai or Egypt, so the battle must have occurred in Saudi Arabia and that must be where Mt. Sinai is to be found (pp.
But elsewhere their book says this "myth" has arisen only within the last "almost 250 years" as a long-running "tourist scam," and "prior to that time [about 1740], numerous other mountains were claimed" to be Mt. Sinai though no example is given (pp.

 DMC advised to close Sinai
Sinai, built because of barriers to Jewish doctors at existing hospitals, at one time served most of the area's Jewish community.
Merle Harris, a board member of DMC and the Jewish Fund, said that even though economics and other factors may necessitate closing Sinai, "anytime you lose tradition and a symbol of the Jewish community, it's a blow.
Elaine Roberts, a unit secretary who has worked at Sinai for 25 years, said staffers at the hospital were notified of DMC's decision on Wednesday.

SINAI - LoveToKnow Article on SINAI
In judging of the points of controversy connected with Sinai we are brought face to face with the question of the historicity of the Hebrew records involved.
The Sinai group as a whole is called by the Arabs Jebel al-Tur; the name Sin in Arabic comes only from books.
The chief authority for the ancient sanctity of Mount Sinai is Antoninus Martyr (end of the 6th century), who tells that the heathen Arabs in his time still celebrated a moon feast there.

sinai - International Standard Bible Encyclopedia
Greene supposed Elim (Exodus 15:27) to be Elath (Deuteronomy 2:8), now `Ailah at the head of the Gulf of `Akabah; and that Sinai therefore was some unknown mountain in Midian.
This is important, as Israel encamped near Sinai from the end of May till April of the next year.
Lepsius, it is true (Letters from Egypt, 1842-44), denying the existence of any unbroken tradition, and relying on his understanding of Cosmas, supposed Sinai to be the Jebel Serbal above mentioned, which lies immediately South of Wady Feiran.

 Sinai, Mount --  Encyclopædia Britannica
There were three annual festivals in ancient Israel during which Jews were expected to go to Jerusalem.
Mount Sinai is renowned as the principal site of divine revelation in Jewish history, where God is purported to have appeared to Moses and given him the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20; Deuteronomy 5).
Developed in the Rhineland in the 12th–15th centuries, they were held in such high esteem that they became known as Mi-Sinai (“from Mount Sinai”).

Daily Bible Study - The Sinai Peninsula
The roughly triangle-shaped peninsula has the Gulf of Suez and the Suez Canal along its western side, the Mediterranean Sea on its north, and along the east is the Gaza Strip and the Negev Desert of Israel, and then the Gulf of Aqaba, with Saudi Arabia on the opposite shore.
In modern times, the Sinai territory has been held for a time by Israel after wars with Egypt in 1956 and 1967, but in accordance with peace treaties is today again part of Egypt.
The Sinai Peninsula was the scene of numerous events of Bible History.

Mount Sinai - the real location where Moses met with God
Several other proposed sites for the true Mount Sinai have been suggested by biblical scholars, but thus far they have produced no archaeological evidence to support them.
Because so many Bible references as well as archaeological evidence (or the lack of it) pointed away from traditional Mount Sinai and toward Saudi Arabia as the location of the historical mountain of Moses, a site inspection was necessary to determine if other evidence could be found to support this theory.
All passages associated with Moses&; stay in Midian point toward present-day Saudi Arabia as the area to which Moses fled, subsequently met God at the burning bush, and then returned with the children of Israel.

There are other peaks in this range, some of which have also been contested as the true Mount Sinai.
Mount Mousa (or Musa), also referred to as Jebel Musa, Gebel Mousa, Mount Moses or the Mountain of Moses (all of which basically means the same thing) is considered to be that biblical peak.
Mount Sinai is both the name of a collection of peaks, sometimes referred to as the Holy Mountains, and the biblical name of the peek on which Moses received the Ten Commandments.
