One Arab World :: My Response
Pan Arabism is the logical, elusive savior of the Arab People.
As I mentioned in a previous post the most powerful party's pushing Pan Arabism was the Bathist of Syria and Iraq and the Nasserites of Egypt and, currently, no one in their right mind would want to be associated with them.
I defined "Pan Arabism" in the opening of the "My Argument for Pan-Arabism" post and argued that the importance of differentiating it from "Arab Nationalism" and "Arabism".

Yet at the same time he attempted to redefine Arabism so that it was consistent with his policies towards Israel, and to defend his policies by saying they were consistent with Arabism and permitted by Egyptian sovereignty.
However, this call for unification had not been desired, rather it was the result of the domestic chaos in Syria, Nasser’s role as an Arab leader, and the symbolic significance of the UAR that further radicalized Arab politics and added to the grievances against conservative regimes (Barnett 135).
The disintegration of the UAR illustrates the persistence of fundamental differences over the meaning of Arabism: Nasser saw it as interdependence of Arab security and power among sovereign Arab states; the Syrian Ba’athists saw it as an organic link among Arabs that demanded a singular political authority (Barnett 137).

[7] Palestinians' and Arabs' rejections of Arabism in the aftermath of 1967 may also be attributed to the Arab and Palestinian need to escape answering questions concerning the real causes of the humiliating defeat.
Along with these changes, the old myths of Arabism and Palestinian militarism were replaced by new and uncompromising myths of radical Islamism (Al-Sharif Chapter 11).
The Palestinian rejection of pan-Arabism and their reliance on local identities instead have been connected with the discrediting of Arabism--both as an ideology and a public philosophy for the Arabs--as a consequence of the 1967 defeat.

SOHH.com Global Forum - a step in the right direction?
As Iraq's political parties and groups continue their wrangling over a new constitution, consensus seems to be taking shape on at least one issue: The future Iraqi state should not be described as "Arab." Some participants also want Iraq to withdraw from the Arab League to contemplate broader alliances in the region and beyond.
The Iraqi left is also favorable of abandoning what the poet Fadil Sultani calls "the illusion of Arabism." The reason is that Iraqi Socialists and Communists have been frequently persecuted and, at times, massacred, as enemies of "pan-Arab nationalism."
It has no place in a new Iraq."

The philosophies of these men have done much to inspire generations of Arab leaders such as Gamal Abdel Nasser, who passionately advocated the changing of the Persian Gulf to "Arab Gulf", or Saddam Hussein, who defined his Arabism by the extent of his brutality against Iranians (Kurds, Persians, etc.).
Michel Aflaq defined Islam only as "a revolutionary Arab movement whose meaning was the renewal of Arabism" (see Khalil, p.198).

Window on the Arab World, and More!: Thoughts on the New Pan-Arabism
Theoretically, the two are mutually exclusive, at least as political programmes, because Arabism is based on Arab ethnicity, and not all Arabs are Muslims.
But Islam aside, there is no reason for Morocco and Saudi Arabia to use the same written language.
Imagine, Rubin argues, how much worse off Latin American countries would be if they were constantly trying to force each other into a pan-Latin state.

Pan-Africanism, Pan-Arabism, Pan-Slavic and Turananian nationalism: Progressive or reactionary?
The measure of any ethnic ideology is whether it focuses its fire on imperialism as the enemy.
Turanian nationalism also thought of as Pan-Turkic ideology sometimes is most reactionary as a "pan" idea.
If the pan fries non-imperialist nations, then it is reactionary and should be thrown out.

If political Arabism is going the way of so many other twentieth-century ideologies, what will take its place?
The reason is obvious, but it has nothing to do with the adoption of political Arabism.
The attempt by Bashar to return this into the anti-Israel prism hit a stone wall everywhere except with Hizbullah.
