 Hawaii and the Pacific Islands
The following accounts provide sketches of some recent invaders and potential invaders of some areas of the Pacific Islands and the potentially catastrophic consequences they may have.
However, five sea turtle species come ashore in the Hawaiian Islands to deposit eggs; none are local endemics but are widespread in the Pacific (see chapter on Marine Resources).
Finally, the Hawaiian Islands have been studied more intensively and received more conservation management attention than most other Pacific islands (except New Zealand), primarily because Hawaii is a U.S. state and because the Hawaiian Islands have a set of unique animals and plants that are renowned for their evolution in geographic isolation.

 Journeys through Pacific history
The main body of literature on the Pacific in the nineteenth century was in fact that created by and relating to the missions, who followed close on the "discovery" of the islands by the British and French expeditions of the late eighteenth century.
The particular strength is material relating to the central Pacific islands where he had spent most of his administrative career, in which the collection is unrivalled, but there are publications on probably every inhabited island of the Pacific from Hawaii to New Guinea, and on all aspects of traditional culture, culture contact and post-colonial society.
The Pacific Collection of the Barr Smith Library at the University of Adelaide is a collection of national significance for research on the islands of Melanesia, Polynesia and, in particular, Micronesia.

After the escape of some Chilean political prisoners in the 1930s, Islanders movement off the island was severely controlled.
It was at this time that the islanders were forceably herded into Hangaroa, when they remained as prisoners on their own island until 1966.
Eventually, the Toro brothers sold their interests to one Enrique Merlet, who took a strong lead which eventually led to the killing of the last king of the island by poison, and the murder deportation of any opposition.
