I'm trying to find some information about the infamous gunfighter named John Wesley Hardin.
Wayne also appeared as a corpse in 1931's The Deceiver, and his character died in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962).
Even though he probably was the most prolific mankiller of the Old West, there has yet to be a famous movie about him--and thus many people don't know much about him.

Speaking of West Texas, many times I have mentioned being from there and having people confuse the region with the Central Texas town of West, which does happen to be in McLennan County of which I am a native having been born in Waco.
Some of my first assignments for the Advocate that September of 1963 were taking pictures of the local football teams for Lyons.
An artesian well dating from 1910 supplies millions of gallons of cool water for swimmers to enjoy on hot summer days, there having once been a natural spring there from which it is said cattle herds from South Texas were watered on their way to the Chisholm Trail in Oklahoma and Kansas.

At the end of 18th century, the Spanish technically owned Louisiana, the huge region west of the Mississippi that had once been claimed by France and named for its monarch, King Louis XIV.
On this day in 1803, the U.S. Senate approves a treaty with France providing for the purchase of the territory of Louisiana, which would double the size of the United States.
Despite Spanish ownership, American settlers in search of new land were already threatening to overrun the territory by the early 19th century.
