New Historians - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The New Historians are a loosely-defined group of Israeli historians who have declared as their goal the reexamination of the history of Israel and Zionism.
According to the New Historians, Israel and Arab countries have therefore their own share of responsibility for the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Palestinian plight.
In a preemptive move, [Avi] Shlaim states at the outset of his new book that his focus is on Israeli politics and the Israeli role in relations with the Arab world--and thus he has no need of Arab documents.

 New Historians
New Historians are a group of Israeli historians who have declared their goal to be reexamining the history of Israel and Zionism.
Although the New Historians' publications include a variety of views, they may be generalized to present the Zionist movement as aimed in such a way that Jewish statehood could only come combined with the displacement of at least some Palestinian Arabs.
Therefore, according to the New Historians, Israel has its own share of responsibility for the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Palestinian plight.

Amazon.com: Fabricating Israeli History: The 'New Historians': Books: Efraim Karsh
"New historian" Ilan Pappe has shown his true colours as a socialist propagandist with a political agenda by claiming, as sorry defense against Karsh's indictment, to be most concerned with "moral issues [and] not the natural human follies of professional historians [i.e.
In FABRICATING ISRAELI HISTORY, Karsh dissects the claims of the self-anointed "new historians" of Israel: he delineates the serious flaws in the narratives that these men and women are attempting to propound by going back to the archives and showing how the "new historians" have systematically distorted facts in their construction of historical evidence.
These new historians all make one gross omission: They consider it irrelevant that seven Arab nations attacked Israel upon her founding in 1947, making no secret of their intention to destroy the new Jewish state.

 To Tell the Truth
Ironically, the "New Historians" are using official documents being released now by governmental and public institituions in Israel in order to question, and sometimes demolish, the official propaganda and myths that were perpetuated by the Zionist leadership and by court historians for decades in order to justify such policies as the non-recognition of Palestinian nationalism.
In some cases, the "New Historians" have provided Israeli readers with anecdotal evidence that helped to de-romanticize many of the Zionist leaders and to question the accuracy of official Israeli history.
The opposition to the "New Historians," therefore, is not so much scholarly as political.

New Criticism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Empson, too, attempted to distance himself from the New Criticism, and was particularly critical of Wimsatt.
In the 1930s, I.A. Richards borrowed Sigmund Freud's term "overdetermination" (which Louis Althusser would later revive in Marxist political theory) to refer to the multiple meanings which he believed were always simultaneously present in language.

 burke-new history (burkenh)
Historians of popular culture try to reconstruct ordinary, everyday assumptions on the basis of the records of what were extraordinary events in the lives of the accused: interrogations and trials.
On the other side, society and culture are now viewed as arenas for decision-making, and historians discuss 'the politics of the family', 'the politics of language', or the ways in which ritual can express or even in some sense create power.
According to these 'functionalists', as they have been called ('structural historians', as I would prefer to describe them), historical explanations of the policies of the Third Reich need to concentrate on the men around Hitler, on the machinery of government and the decision-making process, and on Nazism as a social movement.

The New New Israel Historians - Stormfront White Nationalist Community
Israel's new historians were viewed by Arab intellectuals not as an invitation to self-examination but as further evidence that Zionism was a crime.
There were virtually no Palestinian ''new historians'' asking whether their leader in the 1930's and 40's, Haj Amin al-Husseini, was right to collaborate with the Nazis, calling for the killing of Jews ''wherever you find them.'' Few Muslim leaders questioned whether sending suicide bombers into Israeli cafes was a moral act.
Fifteen years ago, the Israeli scholar Benny Morris coined the term ''new historians'' to describe a handful of young Israeli writers who were recasting the standard Zionist narrative.

Al-Ahram Weekly Opinion Israel's new historians
The stand of Israel's new historians can be an inspiration for Western historians and intellectuals to engage in some soul-searching of their own, to expose the West's ambivalent and contradictory attitudes towards the Jews: either launching intolerable anti-Semitic campaigns or defending Israel indiscriminately, irrespective of its mistakes and crimes.
Dr Maksoud highlights this point when he reproaches the New Historians for overlooking the fact that Israel's right to exist cannot be taken for granted as long as a Palestinian state does not exist, even if the Arab parties themselves are responsible, whether wholly or partially, for its non-existence.
He admits that their reassessment of Israel's history contains a self-criticism "which can awaken the conscience of Israel's new ruling establishment" and that such a development is "testimony to a state of maturity" derived from the fact that Israel's present power "is in no need of fallacies to establish its authority".

 WomenOf.com : The "New" U.S. Women's History(1)
Women's historians, scrutinizing critically the history of labor unions, questioned an old belief among unionists and labor historians that women made poor unionists: that they were hard to organize and became unreliable union members because they viewed themselves as temporary workers and would accept substandard wages.
Women's historians today are among those active today in developing what is being called a "new political history," which seeks to examine the mutual influence of state policy and nongovernmental activities and ideologies.
Reconstructing the history of two periods of intense union activity, 1905-20 and 1932-45, women's labor historians found no evidence for such a notion and substantial evidence to the contrary: women workers had a sterling record of militance and perseverance in labor struggles.

But rather than condemn local officials, who after all are not historians, those who do care about such records and who do know how valuable they are for historical purposes {lave a special obligation to work toward their safe-keeping.

 Israeli New Historicism
Israeli Historiography before the New Historians was a biased, adulterated and all-together misleading narrative, which was used by Israeli propagandists as an integral facet in the battle of falsifying history for political needs and purposes.
Unfortunately the overall impact of the New Historians within Israel has been confined to a small number of researchers and to those few individuals who seek the unadulterated and true historical facts of the region.
In fact, many of the Israeli historians and other Israelis who provided crucial information on the subject were often previous military and political leaders.

The great virtue of the new historians is that their work at least pushes the contradictions within Zionism to limits otherwise not apparent to most Israelis, and even many Arabs.
