This belief continued to colour people's view of the late Neolithic villages and may account for why Renfrew virtually ignored this amazing site in his discussion of an evolving chiefdom in late Neolithic Orkney.
The last 15 years have seen some dramatic changes in both the evidence for the Neolithic in Orkney and the way in which the period is conceived.
