Muawiyah I - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mu'awiyah instituted several Byzantine-style bureaucracies, called diwans, to aid him in the governance and the centralization of the Caliphate and the empire.
Sunni Muslims claim that Hasan pledged allegiance to Mu'awiyah.

 Umayyads
In place of the theocratic government of the early caliphs, Muawiyah created a more autocratic and secular regime, which sought to maintain the privileges of the Arabs and the fruits of their conquests.
Islam was reserved as a privilege of the Arabs and was not forced upon the conquered peoples, whose society was preserved and strongly influenced the government, art, and economy of the dynasty.
Under Muawiyah I and his Umayyad successors, Muslim control of the Mediterranean region was completed.

 Middle East Times
Muawiyah, who is seen by some historians as the founder of Arab nationalism and the dictatorship principle in Islam, inspired the contemporary Arabist, dictators, and terrorists, such as presidents Saddam Hussein of Iraq and the late Hafez Assad of Syria.
Ironically, the secular Baath party allied with the terrorist fighters of Al Qaeda to kill Iraqis in schools, hospitals, mosques and on roads, just because they chose to remove their oppressive regime and accept democracy and reconciliation for Iraq instead of totalitarianism and exclusivity.
The responsibility of the sweets in this murder was very similar to the responsibility of Imam Ali in the killing of Ammar Bin Yasser, and the real murderer is hidden or not blamed.

An introduction to fifth infallible Hazrat Imam Hussain
When Imam Hassan Mujtaba (A.S.) was martyred due to the conspiracies of Muawiyah, Imam Hussain (A.S.) got the post of Imamate and caliphate at the age of forty-six.
Imam Hussain (A.S.) knew that all the miseries and sorrows of Muslims were due to Muawiyah who wanted to uproot Islam by his frauds, cunningness and craftiness.
Therefore, Imam (AS.) did not think it was suitable to fight him openly, as Muawiyah was apparently Muslim and showed himself to be the supporter of Islam and Muslims.

Islamic and Muslim Sects Around the World - A Shi'ite Encyclopedia - Chapter 5a - More On Muawiyah
Muawiyah alleged that he has participated in the assassination of Uthman.
In the Battle of Siffin, when the head of Ammar Yasir (RA) was cut off and was taken to Muawiyah, two people were arguing over it, each one claiming that he had killed Ammar.
Here is more evidence on Muawiyah from the History and Hadith:

Hazrat Husain (R.A.) went to Karbala (in Iraq) along with his family members, had confrontation with Yazid's army and was martyred there.

An introduction to fourth infallible Hazrat Imam Hassan (AS): IT IS A PART OF ISLAMIC OCCASIONS NETWORK
Because, if Muawiyah became victorious he would had smashed and destroyed all the hopes of Islam and would have destroyed the foundation of Islam and killed all the true Muslims.
If you do not accept my advise and wish to create disorder and chaos and spill the blood of Muslim I will quickly attack you along with the other Muslims, and will put you on trial.
Muawiyah not only denied and turned his face from taking the oath of allegiance, he also sent spies to kufa to martyr the Imam.

Hasan bin Ali - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If Hasan was to renounce it, then Muawiyah would have an uncontested claim to the caliphate.
This put him in conflict with Muawiyah, who had been victorious in his competition with Ali for the caliphate.
The armies of Hasan and Muawiyah would fight some battles, but eventually Hasan gave up his claim in order to maintain peace among the Muslim people.

 Articles - Sunni Islam
Ali was not able to resolve the crisis before he was assassinated by a rebel faction, and Muawiyah claimed the Caliphate upon his death.
Muawiyah claimed that because Ali had taken no action to apprehend Uthman's killers, Ali was complicit in his murder.
Muawiyah consolidated his own power and refused to accept 'Ali's authority until Uthman's assassins were brought to justice.

Husain expected the people of Kufah in southern Iraq to support his claim, because his father's caliphate had been based there.
Muawiyah was also an enemy of Ali, blaming him for the death of Uthman.
Muawiyah had initially opposed Mohammed's prophesy and was one of the last Meccans to convert to Islam, finally becoming Mohammed's secretary.

 arbaein
He particularly told Yazid in his last will that if Imam Hussin refused to give the oath of allegiance, he should take it easy because Muawiyah knew the bad consequences of such enforcement.
Muawiyah during his life time, had asked well-known people to give the oath of allegiance to Yazid, but did not impose this request upon Imam Hussain.
Above all, Muawiyah wanted to strengthen the basis of future kingdom of his son, Yazid, who because of his lack of principles and scruples was opposed with a large group of Muslims.

In AD 654, an Arab force under Muawiyah I captured Rhodes, pillaged its remains and sent the scrap metal to Syria, where it was carried off on the backs of 900 camels to be melted down.
The remains laid on the ground for over 800 years, and even broken they were so impressive that many travelers came to see them.
Pieces continued to turn up for sale for years, after being found on the caravan route.

A possible version of their historic conversation has been recorded in the book "Al-Akhbar at-Tiwal" by Abu Hanifah Ad-Daynawawi as follows:
Regarding your statement that Muawiyah is the wali of Uthman, the person who has the first right to this is his son, Amr ibn Uthman.

Although he was a brutal dictator without much of a sense of humor, he did see that Islam was not going to be successful as a basis for law and governance as long as it held a premier position in the new Arab Empire.

Umayyad - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Muawiyah had been the governor of Syria under the 3rd caliph and his kinsman, Uthman ibn Affan.
Later when Ali was assassinated in 661, his son Hasan pledged allegiance to Muawiyah and Muawiyah was declared caliph of all Muslim lands.
This established the Umayyad dynasty, and the capital of the caliphate was moved to Damascus.

WORLD ENCYCLOPAEDIA - Iraq - The Sunni-Shia Controversy
Yazid I, Muawiyah's son and his successor in 680, was unable to contain the opposition that his strong father had vigorously quelled.
Both Ali and Muawiyah bided their time in their separate governorships: Muawiyah, who had been declared caliph by some of his supporters, in newly conquered Egypt, and Ali, in Iraq.
The ambitious Muawiyah induced Ali's eldest son, Hasan, to renounce his claim to the caliphate.

Muawiyah cultivated the goodwill of Christian Syrians by recruiting them for the army at double pay, by appointing Christians to many high offices, and by appointing his son by his Christian wife as his successor.
Muawiyah is considered the architect of the Islamic empire and a political genius.
Muawiyah created a professional army and, although rigorous in training them, won the undying loyalty of his troops for his generous and regularly paid salaries.

History Forum > Difference between Shia and Sunni Islam
Jul 23 2003, 07:42 AM Ironicially, the Umayyad Caliphate of Muawiyah and his succesors was the most racist and Arab-nationalist dynasty in Islamic history.
Ali's son Hasan and his son Hussain (uhm, or was it vice versa?) both claimed to be Caliphs (of course, the older one claimed first) but Muawiyah had them killed at Qarbala.
It's a long story; I can say is that at the end, Muawiyah was victorius and founded the Umawwid Caliphate while the followers of Ali and his sons Hasan and Husein became called as Shiite.

 The Umayyads
Before his death, Muawiyah secured allegiance to his son, Yazid, thus introducing dynastic succession to Muslim rule.
Muawiyah also led excursions into Anatolia beginning in 672 which culminated in an unsuccessful three-year siege of Constantinople (674-677).
During his tenure (644-655), he appointed members of his clan to various posts; in particular, Muawiyah b.

Because of this and for many other reasons, Imam Hassan (AS) decided to end the dispute so that the perverse personality of Muawiyah and his evil designs would be revealed to the people beyond doubt and so that they would understand the true nature of the regime of the Umayyads.
Imam Hassan (AS) examined the condition of his army and saw the unconcealed treachery of most of his commanders.
First, even though his forces fought against Muawiyah, they had neither unity nor honor.

The other great dissident movement in early Islam was that of the Kharijites, literally, the seceders, so-called because they seceded from the army of the Caliph Ali when he agreed to settle his dispute with Muawiyah through arbitration.
Calling out the Quranic slogan, "Judgement is only Gods", they fought bitterly against Ali and his army which included many of the leading Companions, until, in the year 38, Imam Ali defeated them at the Battle of Nahrawan, where some ten thousand of them perished.

Shia News Articles: Islam Isma (Infallibility) of the Prophets
Again, these traditions were inserted into their books by the Umayads, among others, to justify their own corruption and insolence.
It is to their advantage to portray the Prophet (PBUHandHF) as a man who listens to music and watches a dance with his wife, to justify the dancing and the music that was (and still is) rampant in their palaces.
For when the Prophet (PBUHandHF) sins so heinously as they depict him (PBUHandHF) in the above traditions, we can no longer blame Muawiyah, or Yazid, or Amr Ibn al-Aas, among others, when they sin.
