By the late 1920s, there were no longer any Inuit who had not been contacted by traders, missionaries or government agents.
Indeed, Canada has, metaphorically, adopted the Inuit as a sort of national mascot, using Inuit symbols like the inukshuk in unlikely places, such as its use as a symbol of Vancouver's Olympic bid for 2010.
In recent years, circumpolar cultural and political groups like the Inuit Circumpolar Conference have come together to promote the Inuit and other northern people and to fight against ecological problems, such as global warming, which disproportionately affects the Inuit population.
