Inaccessible Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Another attempt at mapping the island was made during the Royal Society expedition of 1962 to Tristan da Cunha, which took scientists to Inaccessible Island.
Due to poor navigation charts, 19th-century sailing ships had to be guided by islands in waters where their crew did not know much about the currents.
Inaccessible Island has been used by the islanders of Tristan da Cunha for several economic purposes.

The lower slopes of the island were characterized by drably plumaged "lowland" birds, whereas the plateau support- ed brightly plumaged "upland" birds (Fraser 1983, Collar and Stuart 1985, Fraser and Briggs 1992).
A review of previous visits to the islands suggests that the diversity of forms on Inaccessible Island could have been overlooked.
