 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Huron Indians
Meanwhile the condition of the Hurons on St. Joseph's or Christian Island was deplorable in the extreme.
This would imply also a revelation vouchsafed in centuries gone by; the shreds of such a revelation could still be discerned in their beliefs, several of which supposed some knowledge of the Biblical history of the human race, though that knowledge was all but obliterated.
Though this intervention of Champlain was bitterly resented by the Iroquois, and rankled their breasts, their thirst for vengeance and their hatred for both the French and the Hurons was intensified beyond measure by the expedition of 1615.

Michigan and Huron: One Lake or Two?
Destructive invaders.(Lake Huron.) (Canada and the World Backgrounder)
The separate names for the lake are a part of history and are also legally institutionalized since Lake Michigan is treated as American and Lake Huron is bisected by the international boundary between the United States and Canada.

 Great Lakes: Lake Huron
The Lake Huron Initiative Action Plan – 2002 was developed with extensive agency involvement and began discussions of issues of importance to Lake Huron, actions that need to be taken to protect and restore the Lake Huron ecosystem, and development of partnerships to begin undertaking efforts that could not be accomplished by individual agencies alone.
Led by the Michigan Office of the Great Lakes and partially funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Initiative released the original Lake Huron Initiative Action Plan in March 2000 and an update in 2002.
A precursor to the Lake Huron Binational Partnership, the Lake Huron Initiative (the “Initiative”) was a U.S.-led effort to compile existing data to assess the state of the Lake Huron basin and identify priorities for future efforts.
