 Great Britain -> History on Encyclopedia.com 2002
In Palestine, unable to maintain peace between Arabs and Jews, Britain turned its mandate over to the United Nations.
The basic domestic economic problem of the post-World War I years was the decline of Britain's traditional export industries, which made it more difficult for the country to pay for its imports of foods and raw materials.
Late in the 8th cent., and with increasing severity until the middle of the 9th cent., raiding Vikings (known in English history as Danes) harassed coastal England and finally, in 865, launched a full-scale invasion.

Economically, the Great Depression hit Britain harder than, for instance, France, because the British government stuck to the GOLD STANDARD and was unwilling to devaluate the pound.
Here the British constitution, favouring the stronger parties and refusing proportional representation to the smaller parties, paid; extremists both on the right and on the left fringe of the political spectrum (Communists respectivelt the National Front) were unable to present themselves as political alternatives.

 History of the United Kingdom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United Kingdom as a name is taken to refer to the kingdom that emerged when the Kingdom of Great Britain and Kingdom of Ireland merged on 1 January 1801.
One example is Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, who is referred to as being "the Second" even though there never was an Elizabeth I of Scotland or Great Britain.
While enormous sums were raised by private individuals and charities (American Indians sent supplies, while Queen Victoria personally gave the present-day equivalent €70,000) British government inaction (or at least inadequate action) caused the problem to become a catastrophe.

 Great Britain, UK tourist information guide
It has been, and still is, unclear as to whether her role would be in a united Europe, or as a separate state on the periphery of Europe.
For this history guide, we shall divide the period of history into four main chunks, and each of these four main chunks then subdivided into bite sized chapters that try to explain the way that things happened
Retrospectively I think there must have been something radically flawed with history as it is taught in out schools as our history is fascinating.
