The 1713 Treaty of Utrecht which ceded the Gibraltar to Britain in perpetuity stipulated that "her Britannic Majesty, at the request of the Catholic King, does not consent or agree that no leave be given, under any pretext whatsoever, either for Jews to reside or have their dwellings in the said town of Gibraltar".
The Jews of Gibraltar are the only Jewish community to sing the anthem in Hebrew, asking not only for the Queen to be saved, but also "her husband".
