 Canada and the United Nations
The United Nations remains crucial to Canada and essential to the conduct of diplomacy in an ever more inter-dependent world.
The United Nations is the only multilateral organization whose membership approaches universality and whose agenda encompasses all areas of human activity, in every region of the world.
Canada believes that promoting human security is an important dimension of the UN's role.

In Canada, we have the NDP (formerly the CCF), a mass labour-based party that grew out of socialist and populist traditions in English Canada.
The "new" Conservative Party of Canada chose its "new" leader this past weekend.
In Quebec -- where resistance to national subjugation has always proven a thorn in the side of those aspiring to a stable, capitalist state -- sovereigntist and deeply-rooted social democratic traditions produced strong support for the Bloc Quebecois, a party which has shifted considerably leftward since the advent of Gilles Duceppe's leadership.

This was highlighted in 2003 by controversy surrounding the United States-led invasion of Iraq (which was not conducted in contravention of UN policy, but was, however, conducted despite intense disapproval by a majority of the vocal membership), and by Iraq's converse direct defiance of UN weapons and humanitarian resolutions.

Backgrounder - Rainy River Land Claim - Indian and Northern Affairs Canada
Canada agreed to obtain the surrenders and took a surrender for sale of the Reserves (except for Manitou Rapids Reserve) from the Rainy River First Nations in 1914-1915.
This includes the First Nations' negotiation costs and the market value of approximately 14,945 acres (6,048 hectares) of provincial Crown land, which Canada has agreed to set aside as reserve land for the RRFNs, subject to the terms and conditions of its Additions to Reserves Policy and the settlement agreement.
In September 1982, the Rainy River First Nations filed a claim with Canada and Ontario claiming that the reserves were wrongfully taken and that the First Nations had been subjected to undue duress and influence which meant the First Nations had never freely consented to the surrenders resulting in their invalidity.

 Abenaki
After Dummer's War, New England came to think of the Abenaki as having permanently migrated to Canada - an error which has persisted to the present.
Since the Abenaki usually retreated to Canada during war, New England came to think of them as Canadian Indians - which, of course, they were not - but it served as an excuse to take most of their land in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont without compensation.
By 1700 the Sokoki had formed a lasting alliance with the Caughnawaga (Christian Mohawk who had relocated to Canada and become French allies) and did not remain neutral.

 Mundane Horoscopes of Nations
The Role of Under-aspected Planets in the Birth of Nations
Although it is my personal belief that, in general, only charts with accurately timed birth-data are of true value, in this “Nations” section I have included many other charts as well, both in the spirit of occult inquiry as well as for the astrologically curious.
However, I would urge readers to pay the greatest attention to those horoscopes based on accurate data; I believe it is there that we have the most to learn, especially when exploring such unknown terrain as the effect of underaspected planets and the symbolism that such planets can mysteriously portray.

faced with a potentially disastrous confrontation with the invading British, the Seven Nations of Canada created a situation in which, if the French won, they had been with them all the way, and demonstrated their support at the Battle of Ste.

 Canada - First Nations
In fact, I suppose that the Metis are one of the *last* nations to arrive in Canada...
The only thing is that before, Cree was used in English to refer indistinctiveley to Cree, Montagnais-Innu, Naskapis and (perhaps) other related Algonkian nations.
The fact is that the Metis Nation emerged not before the 17th or 18th ct., as thus cannot be considered as "first".

The report showed that, although there are a number of factors involved, overfishing is the primary reason ground fish stocks in Atlantic Canada have not been able to rebound and that no bigger threat exists than foreign fleets just outside Canada’s 200 mile limit.
Doing so would enable Canada to deny foreign fishing fleets access to stocks on the nose and tail of the Grand Banks and on the Flemish Cap off the coast of the province.
"Although sixty three percent of Canadians identified the United States as the country with the closest business values to Canada, Canada ranks third behind Japan and the United Kingdom in the eyes of Americans," explained SES President Nikita Nanos.

First Nations in British Columbia, Canada - Vancouver Island & BC Bands
The First Nations of BC refer to those people that can trace their ancestry to the aboriginal people that inhabited the land that is now British Columbia prior to the arrival of Europeans and Americans in the late 18th century.
The term First Nations also avoids the often derogatory connotation associated with the terms native, indigenous and aboriginal.
The term First Nations is more commonly used now to remove the misnomer of 'Indians', which arose from the misconception by Christopher Columbus that he had landed in India.

Seven Nations Stop US Beef Imports
The actions by the Asian nations came just hours after the U.S. government announced that a Holstein cow on a Washington state farm tested positive for mad cow disease, marking the disease's first suspected appearance in the United States.
In Canada, where a single case of the disease was found in May, federal officials said late Tuesday that imports wouldn't be banned unless the suspected case was confirmed.
Japanese authorities have been especially leery about mad cow disease since the nation's herds suffered the first recorded outbreak of the disease in Asia in September 2001, causing meat consumption to plunge.
