 The stone of Erech
I think that the phrase...it had been brought out of Numenore and there set by Isildur at his landing might be a bit of a figure of speech (not the Numenore part, the "at his landing" part).
It would appear that the stone which was later set up at Erech is an object of that kind, though Tolkien never wrote down what its importance was in Númenor.
In outlines of Book V, Tolkien envisioned a tower at Erech.

 Epic of Gilgamesh (Myth-Folklore Online)
The hunter was terrified at the sight of Enkidu, and went home hastily and told his father what he had seen and how badly he had fared.
Enkidu hearkened and the harlot then told him of the glories of Erech and of Gilgamish, who, she said, had been forewarned of Enkidu's coming by two dreams, which he had related to his divine mother, Nin-sun.
As Shepherd (i.e., King) of Erech he forced the people to toil overmuch, and his demands reduced them to such a state of misery that they cried out to the gods and begged them to create some king who should control Gilgamish and give them deliverance from him.

Some believed that it had fallen from the sky, but the Stone was actually brought to the Hill of Erech by Isildur, who rescued it from the destruction of Numenor.

Their techniques and motifs were made widely available by means of cuneiform writing, which they invented before 3000 BC Poor in the raw materials of art, the Sumerians traded crops from their fertile soil for the metal, stone, and wood that they required.
A major peak of artistic achievement is represented by a female head, called Lady of Warka (Erech) from about 3200 BC (Iraq Mus.).
