 Egyptology
'Egyptology has been under siege from cranks since its very beginning, and there is thus a pervasive suspicion of anything that challenges the orthodox interpretation.'
They get upset if we suggest that the Egyptians did not build the Great Pyramid, but they get equally upset if we notionally give the Egyptians the proper tools for the job...
'Egyptology today is in the grip of an orthodoxy which explains everything in terms of the Sun - temples, obelisks, pyramids, Sphinx - everything.

In 1984 the Uruguayan Society of Egyptology opened an Egyptian Museum with the purpose of offering the students of the Uruguayan Institute of Egyptology an opportunity to see ancient Egyptian objects without leaving our premises.

 Egyptology
Textural sources, written in an ancient language using hieroglyphs and their derivatives (and not especially difficult to learn), not only sketch out Egyptian history but also provide a profound insight into the ancient mind and into the socio-economic affairs that are central to all complex societies.
This is happening through the application of new perspectives from the general study of the humanities, and from the results of archaeological fieldwork which is now being undertaken in Egypt on a scale greater than ever before.
The essence of Egyptology is the combination of a wide range of different kinds of evidence.

 Egyptology
Because the artefacts were discovered in controlled excavations, where archaeologists record and keep everything they find, the Egyptology collection contains a wide variety of objects which were unearthed exactly where they had been left by the ancient Egyptians.
In return, the Museum received a share of the artefacts that were found (although this practice was gradually stopped once Egypt became an independent republic in 1952).
The Museum received material from the excavations of the British School of Archaeology in Egypt, the Egypt Exploration Society, and the Liverpool School of Archaeology.

The Father of Egyptology Epithet was awarded to French linguist Jean François Champollion for his having been instrumental in pioneering decipherment of the previously unreadable ancient scripts of Egypt, thereby making full study of that nation's early history and culture possible for other Nineteenth Century scholars who followed him in the new field of study...
The Rosetta Stone is inevitably linked with Champollion, and it is true (facilitated by the monument s three parallel inscriptions in hieroglyphs, demotic and Greek) that he recognized on it the name Ptolmys in Greek and demotic, and thereby he could identify the same cartouched name in hieroglyphs.
