 About the Seminar on Decolonization
Decolonization is a multifaceted, complex historical phenomenon that has increasingly engaged the attention of historians in recent decades.
The dissolution of the western colonial empires has continued to be a critical historical problem because of the far-reaching cultural as well as economic and political effects of decolonization on the new states created in the latter part of the 20th century—and on the governments and societies of the European countries themselves.
After all, though the subject is international, there are distinctive national lines of scholarly pursuit in understanding the decline of empire and the emergence of the successor states.

The Decolonization Reader. James D. Le Sueur (ed)
Accordingly, decolonization cannot be understood by merely focusing on national politics and anticolonial politics, but it should include the challenges presented by history and postcolonial theorists.
“The Imperialism of Decolonization,” spells out how British and Americans sought to consistently manipulate the political climate in the colonies to serve their own interests and even challenge one another.
The part seven articles “Alcohol and Politics in Northern Rhodesia,” “Football and FIFA's African Constituency,” and “Licensing Leisure” all examine how nationalists channeled beliefs and energies devoted to social activities into instruments of liberation.

Decolonization in Latin America and Africa
In conclusion, three main phenomena led to decolonization-- colonial desire for independence based on the successful emancipation of other nations, European distraction with international affairs, and native resentment against racial discrimination.
Because the mother countries had exercised full political control during colonization, political instability ensued after the colonial governing influence was gone.
According to dictionary.com, decolonization is "the action of changing from colonial to independent status." In addition to the causes which led to Latin American decolonization were Allied promises after World War II, limited higher education for a few individuals, and the unstoppable forces of nationalism.
