This became the site of a much grander, roomy and serviceable Courthouse.
This building was in use about three years later.
The General Assembly said in the law that the courthouse would be built in Murphy, and they even went further, saying the court would be held on a certain day and directed the judge of the Judicial Circuit to go there and have court.

This is based on the facts that his last child, Docia, was born in 1861 and that Eliza and her children were listed without Daniel in the 1870 Roane County census.
Family stories say that he was a shoemaker, also.
This was sometime after 1880 because the 1880 Loudon County census showed that he and Mary were still living in Loudon County.
