 Khmer Rouge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was used to refer to a succession of leftist parties in Cambodia which evolved into the Communist Party of Kampuchea (CPK) and later the Party of Democratic Kampuchea.
The CIA in a 1980 report estimated that between 50,000 and 100,000 people were executed by the Khmer Rouge while blaming many other deaths on the Vietnamese invasion.
The organization was also known as the Communist Party of Kampuchea, the Khmer Communist Party and the National Army of Democratic Kampuchea.
