 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
Stanley Kubrick is one of the very finest film-makers the world has known, and 2001 his finest accomplishment.
Remember that when this film was made, man still hadn't made it out to the moon...
It is our shame that the year 2001 did not look like the film 2001, not Kubrick's.

 Interviews: DOWNFALL
I saw a film of the younger Hitler, and one of his speeches, which was amazing because you never saw the audience.
Hirschbiegel and Ganz talked about the making of Downfall, argued that Germans have a responsibility to address the subject of Hitler, and vigorously dismissed criticisms that the film “humanizes” the Führer.
The only CGI shot that's been used in the film was the one with the Reichstag because of course we could not reconstruct that—that's the only thing.

 Muslim American Society
And the film will open on more than triple the number of screens than Moore's Oscar-winning gun control movie "Bowling for Columbine" (2001).
In "Fahrenheit 9/11," Moore exposes alleged links between Bush's family and that of al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, who claimed responsibility for the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in New York and Washington that killed nearly 3,000 people.
Outraged by its red-hot content, which prompted the Walt Disney Co. to refuse in May to distribute the film, conservative Move America Forward is leading a last-ditch campaign to persuade US theatres not to screen it.

The Austin Chronicle: Screens: Being Robert McNamara
The first interview was conducted pre-9/11 in May 2001.
Culled from 20-odd hours of interviews with Kennedy- and Johnson-administration Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara – the man widely regarded as the architect of the Vietnam War – the film is broken down into 11 "lessons" drawn from McNamara's crux-of-history lifetime.
Errol Morris' new documentary, The Fog of War, might just be the most important film in the world right now.

In an appearance at UC Berkeley, Morris said that he was inspired to create the movie after reading McNamara's 2001 book (with James G. Blight), Wilson's Ghost: Reducing the Risk of Conflict, Killing, and Catastrophe in the 21st Century.
From this event comes one of the 11 lessons McNamara recounts of his life and service: "You have to empathize with your enemy." McNamara was interviewed for over 20 hours for the film.
While the Vietnam War is clearly the focus of the debate about McNamara's legacy, the film begins during perhaps an even more crucial event in world history: the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

The Film Tribune - Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
Even though some critics despised the film, it was, thanks to the Python fans, a commercial success, to such an extent that it was successfully re-released in a few American cities in 2001 with an extra twenty-four seconds of footage.
Of course, any medieval film had to include an epic battle or a climactic duel, but no blood was ever shown, and the savagery of the period was carefully sanitized.
The group's pinnacle was undoubtedly attained in 1975 with the release of their second feature film, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", a witty send-up of all medieval themes, written by the entire group and directed by Gilliam and Jones.

While it is absolutely ludicrous to try and pin all the responsibility of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the Bush Administration, it has made me wonder why:
Although the attacks on the World Trade Center in 1993 and the USS Cole in 2000 were indeed serious, it was the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 that should’ve been a real wakeup call.
Although not said implicitly in the movie, the events of September 11 may have been averted had terrorism mitigation taken a higher priority in the Clinton White House.

It had been seen in theatres in the U.K. since September of 2001, and the film's staggering release date in nearly every nation has caused the album of John Barry's music for the film to be a frustratingly delayed product for the six months prior to its final street date.
After debuting at the Sundance Film Festival in January of 2001 and making a showing at the Hamptons International Film Festival in October of 2001, the film finally opened in a regular, though still limited, showing across theatres of the U.S. in April of 2002.
